These are the student requirements for the NAPLAN tests as listed in the NAPLAN handbook.
- 2B or HB pencil or pencils (good quality and length- sharpened)
- a plastic eraser
- a sharpener
- some quiet activity to go with if the student finishes early.
Please note that the Year 7 students will also require a calculator for the calculator allowed section of the NAPLAN Numeracy test.
Class teachers will have generally spoken to the class about these requirements and the vast majority of students will have these at school already. Parents may wish to check with their child/ren to ensure that they have the correct resources for the testing which starts on Tuesday.
NAPLAN test preparation May 6, 2008

It is vitally important that all Year 3, 5 and 7 students are well prepared for their NAPLAN tests scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. Part of this will be students arriving at school on time after a nutritious breakfast to sustain the students during the test days. It is also important that children are also mentally prepared as well. This will involve having sufficient sleep and trying to manage stressful situations prior and during the testing period. Parents are encouraged to plan with their Year 3, 5 and 7 child/ren their activities and routines early next week in order to have them best prepared for the NAPLAN testing. The best academic preparation for the tests is engagement in the normal curriculum program provided by the class teacher. Your child’s teacher will also provide some experiences to prepare the class for the format and test completion methods expected for the tests. More information on NAPLAN will be provided at the special school website here ( http://coomerassparentsnaplan08.edublogs.org/)

Further information on special considerations April 22, 2008

Parents who have experienced their child sitting for the Year 3, 5 or 7 tests in the past may have noticed that children receiving learning support were given a special consideration for the test.
We have now moved to a Nationally consistent testing program and learning support children did not fit the criteria for special considerations. What we will try to do for some of these students is to provide separate supervision for them. They will be supervised in smaller groups and given very short breaks to ease the frustration (up to five minutes per hour test). Otherwise the test conditions will be exactly the same as for any other child. We anticipate a level of frustration from some students with the tests and hope to be able to offer quiet encouragement but can not offer special assistance with most of the reading or tasks. The test instructions are very specific and we need to abide by them to the letter.

We are sending home an information pack on NAPLAN on Wednesday 23 April. Please look for this in your Year 3, 5 or Year 7 bag on or after that day.
This will provide important general information about NAPLAN and a form to request a special consideration for your child/ren.
You may find some of the same information here but the actual form is available from the school.
These applications for special considerations are required back at school by 30 April. Please forward them to your child’s teacher.
As a good starting point, you may wish to visit the information here.
